Having made up for their days apart, Vayne once again leaves Edric with the promise that he won’t be gone as long this time. He sets his sights on the Knights Protector of Fort Radiance, the Order’s first line of defense against external forces, and certainly the first to be trampled by the hellborn when Vayne’s plan comes to fruition.
With Brother Cathas now in Vayne’s pocket, the magical wards that protect the Fort from the influence of the hellborn are compromised. Upon his return, he runs into Edric, who is much changed since the last they saw each other, in many ways that are more than a little appealing for Vayne.
Edric punishes Vayne for his inadvertent lie and sends him on a humiliating and perilous trip back to his chambers. After breakfast, Vayne pays a visit to an old friend who’s having a problem.
Vayne wraps up the lesson with the kitchen staff and ends up on his hands and knees for Awain. On his way back to his chambers, he has a run-in with Edric that takes a rather unexpected turn.
Now that Brother Tomaç has so helpfully brought himself into Vayne’s orbit, the fallen paladin sets a plan in motion that will corrupt the Order from the inside and bring him one step closer to reuniting with Azzagg.
Vayne continues to corrupt Edric as his memories of his time in Hell resurface. Just when he needs it the most, the perfect vehicle for his reunion with Azzagg delivers itself right to his doorstep.
As Vayne’s corruption continues to resurface, he pulls his squire, Edric, further into depravity.
Vayne continues to struggle with his missing memories but the influence of Hell is not so easy to erase. When he notices that his squire, Edric, is rather well-endowed, the corruption of his mortal soul begins to resurface.
